History

Starting with a single landing strip in 1920, the airport has seen plenty of changes and improvements over the years. Passenger service was first introduced in 1929, and international service was first offered in 1948, when the airport was officially named Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. With the opening of Lindbergh Terminal (Terminal 1) in 1962, the airport’s capacity skyrocketed, with 4.1 million travelers by 1967.
